Firenze Atletica (Track Club) & Calanzano Track Meet

Firenze Atletica Marathon (Track Club)

Bronson, Tianna, Heather, London and Kyleigh are members of the Firenze Atletica Marathon (Track Club) in Florence, Italy. In Italy, Track and Field is second only to soccer, and 'athletics' is widely participatory from age 4 to people in their 70's.

Here is a photo of the whole family at the stadium while I was on R&R.

In Florence, the track and staduim are workd class facilities - including indoor facilities for world class athletes to train during the winter and inclement weather. Many of the coaches are world class athletes - javelin, heptathlon, sprinters and distance runners.

Bronson is on a competitive team...which competes against other clubs in Italy.

This is Bronson's wonderful coach, Veronica. She works with Bronson and has stated that he is very good...and will be "very, very good" once his technique improves.

Calanzano Track Meet
(no photos from Heather yet)

Bronson completed his first track meet in an international setting on Saturday. His team, Firenze Atletica Marathon placed 1st out of 5 clubs. The meet was held in Calanzano, and consisted of three events: the 60 Meter Sprint, the 1000 Meter run and the Shot Put. Based on yoru time and distance, each participant receives points. Based on your point total, both you and your club receive points. It is both individual and team competition. Because he hasnt trained for the 1000 meter, Bronson's coach didnt let him run it. So his point totals were based on 2 events rather than 3.

Some of you may recall that Bronson was out of competition for a few weeks after getting hit by a car. You may not know that this was his first Track and Field competition - and the whole format was new to him and Heather.

Out of 90 competitors, he finished 30th and scratched on his second throw in the Shot Put and he finished 1st in his heat, and 30th overall in the 60 Meters.

Shot Put Results

60 Meter Results (out of 85 competitors)

Total Points (did not run the 1000 meters)

Nice job Bronson!!!
